Pragyan Pradan's Personal Essay for
the University of Arts
Very popular among friends that I must say. Uncountable
nick-names and clichés pertaining to him do justice to the statement.
Pragyan Pradhan is chack to some, bhagala, to many
and pode to others. You never know whom he sticks with or whom
he has recently had a quarrel with. Always amiable, very friendly, occasionally
sarcastic, Pragyan Pradhan is a near ideal pal.
An intriguing anecdote will portray him even more vividly:
One day we (me and pradhan) were just done with our lunch in the school
dining room and waiting for another friend to finish. When the third
chum I ushered him to leave and said, ‘Let’s go!’
But very sourly he said, ‘No! Why not spend the day here!?’
I felt irritation and swore at him. He looked perplexed! Lost perhaps
as he had not anticipated anything as such. He quickly repaid me with
a blow on my leg from under the table. Then and there the jolly meal
turned to a heated argument. Infuriated both of us left the dining room
with the other friend in between us. As we stepped out into the foyer
he pointed at my feet and said that my shoes were untied. Astonished,
I looked down to see it for myself. He quickly swerved his hand under
my nose and hit it mischievously. It was followed by a boisterous laughter.
I looked up at him and couldn’t hold my smile. We looked at each
other and I myself began to laugh.
He is extremely hardworking and will get dogged upon anything till he
is satisfied. He can argue until he is able to prove Christ was a devil
if he believes so. No wonder many call him obstinate. But he is not
obstinate, simply eccentric and inscrutable.
